The method

  1. 1

    Use a proper citrus compost

Free-draining and slightly acidic. Water only when the top 3 cm feel dry.

  2. 2

    Feed year-round

Summer: high-nitrogen citrus feed. Winter: low-nitrogen. Never skip.

  3. 3

    Move outside in summer

Full sun outdoors from June to September for the biggest crop.

  4. 4

    Overwinter cool and bright

A cool porch (5–12°C) is ideal — never a hot living room.

Common problems

Leaf drop

Sudden temperature change, over/under-watering, or draft. Steady the conditions.

Scale insects

Wipe with soapy water; repeat every 10 days.
